PAC Supports Accessible Data Inquiry Research Through DAVAI

May 26, 2026

As artificial intelligence continues to reshape how people interact with information, an important question remains: who has access to these emerging tools and experiences? A recent blog post from the Concord Consortium highlighted ongoing usability studies of DAVAI (Data Analysis through Voice and Artificial Intelligence), an AI-powered tool designed to make data inquiry more accessible for blind and low-vision learners.

Built as a plugin for CODAP, DAVAI enables users to explore datasets, create and navigate data representations, and ask questions using natural language rather than relying solely on traditional visual interfaces. The project aims to create more flexible and inclusive pathways for engaging with data and learning through inquiry. PAC is proud to contribute to this work through accessibility and user experience collaboration led by PAC Founder and President Sina Bahram. Early usability findings continue to reinforce the value of designing experiences that support multiple ways of interacting with information.

Projects like DAVAI demonstrate how accessibility-centered innovation can broaden participation in STEM and help ensure emerging AI experiences are designed with inclusion in mind from the start.
