Projects: Cleveland Museum of Art

ArtLens

A seated museum visitor with light skin tone touches a slightly sloped grey tactile relief of a circus tent in front of a digital screen with an image of the painting on the screen. His fingertips rest on raised shapes and textured lines. The screen displays a colorful painting of a nighttime outdoor scene, with an orange-roofed carousel glowing among dark blue trees and small silhouetted figures; a caption at the bottom reads, "Couple in the Shadows." A black speaker is mounted directly below the screen. The visitor is wearing a red baseball cap, a pale blue-and-white striped shirt, and olive-green trousers.

PAC partnered with the Cleveland Museum of Art, Design I/O, Dome Collective, and Line Break on ArtLens Reimagined, the third iteration of the museum’s ArtLens gallery, leading inclusive experience design, tactile design, and the digital accessibility of the companion ArtLens app so the reimagined gallery is accessible by design rather than by afterthought.

Using AI as a Tool for Visual Descriptions

A screenshot of The Cleveland Museum of Art's collection page. The main content shows an oil painting, the Portrait of Dora Wheeler, by William Merritt Chase. In the painting, a woman in a blue dress sits in a dark wooden chair, resting her head on one hand, beside a small table holding a vase of yellow flowers. The background is a soft yellow patterned wall or screen with loose floral decoration. On the right side, the page lists the artwork title, date "1882-83," artist "William Merritt Chase," and details including culture, medium, measurements, credit line, public domain status, and location. Buttons for "ArtLens App," At the top is the museum's logo and navigation menu with options such as "Visit," "What's On," "Art," "Donate," "Join/Log In," and "Search." "Share," "Download," and "Print" appear below the information.
