Audio Description

Audio description (AD) is narration that provides key visual information within time-based media and events. It supports access to visual content in videos, films, presentations, performances, live programs, broadcasts, and other experiences where important information is communicated visually over time.

PAC helps organizations understand what AD is, when it is needed, how it should be produced, and how it should be surfaced to audiences. This includes guidance on the elements of high-quality AD, appropriate timing and placement, tone, level of detail, delivery methods, and the ways content producers can reduce the need for separate descriptive narration by making essential visual information available within the primary content itself.

PAC also authors and records audio description. This can include reviewing source media or live-event structures, developing AD scripts, coordinating timing, recording narration, and advising on implementation across media platforms, live-event systems, streaming environments, mobile devices, or other delivery channels.

Our approach treats AD as part of the content experience, not simply as a technical add-on. Strong audio description allows audiences who are blind, have low vision, or otherwise do not perceive or process visual information in the same way to follow the action, understand visual context, and engage more equitably with time-based content.
